3D Viewer Overview

The 3D Viewer is an extension of the 2D GIS in Aarhus Workbench.

Getting Started

To get started first create a 3D node from the Create button on the 3D ribbon in Aarhus Workbench. This adds a 3D Viewer node to the workspace manager. Just as with sections, the 3D Viewer is opened by checking the box in front of the 3D Viewer node.

Initially the 3D Viewer is empty. Nodes can be added from Aarhus Workbench or loaded from files in the 3D Viewer.

Select a Workbench Manager node or a layer from the GIS Layer control and click the Add Layer button on the 3D ribbon in Aarhus Workbench to bring a copy of the node or layer into the 3D Viewer. GIS background layers can similarly be copied to the 3D Viewer using the Add GIS MAP button. Unlike with sections, 3D Viewer nodes have no node management in the Aarhus Workbench workspace manager, the 3D Viewer instead uses its own workspace manager like tree structure with its own node management and node selection.

The 3D view is to the right of the nodes. See 3D Viewer Shortcuts (3DViewerShortcuts) for help in navigating the 3D view. The keyboard shortcuts are also available within the 3D Viewer by clicking the “Keyboard/Mouse shortcuts” button at the button left.

The color scale for the selected node is displayed below. There is some additional node information for the selected node under the manager. Finally the coordinate system and an option to display the position can be found in the lower right corner of the 3D Viewer.

Each ribbon has its own description on the following pages, that also open by pressing F1 after having selected the ribbon. Much of this information is also available as mouse over hints on the different ribbon buttons.
